Debanma Saturday Classes

Debanma Heritage Forum, (Debanma) is established to promote language, traditions, culture
and the arts of the Blin people in Diaspora, furthermore, to tackle education, health and social
problems and conduct development programmes for the community.
As children are the most important section of our community and the future members of the
community, Debanma is developing projects to help them. Saturday classes are therefore,
primarily aimed at children in secondary school education and their parents/guardians. The
main purpose of these classes is to boost the children's ability to achieve through a provision
of persistent support and guidance to both the children and their parents/guardians.

Needs:
Debanma aims to provide a high quality support to all the children taking part but also
demands unreserved support of the parents/guardians because no achievement will made
without their full commitment.
We continuously need the support of families to exactly identify the needs of their children and
share their concerns that they may have in the way their children are progressing in their school
work.
We have forms and we want all parents and children to fill in all sections of the forms to help us
identify what children's needs are. Please add any other points you wish to say on a separate
paper.

About the Teachers
Debanma wishes to emphasise that all the teachers taking part in our children's support
programmes are volunteers. They are volunteering simply because they like to help children
and their parents to succeed. Therefore, they deserve everybody's support, cooperation and
respect.
At present, we have six volunteer teachers and are able speak Blin, Tigre, Tigrigna, English,
French and Spanish. Therefore, they can help children almost with everything.
Training Rooms: All the training rooms are hired and we need to pay for them and we would
like the contribution of parents towards these expenses until Debanma secures funding for the
hire charges.

Equality of Opportunity
Debanma will ensure in providing a suitable environment for everyone to benefit and have a
rewarding experience and it expects a similar treatment from everyone who comes in contact
with its services. Therefore, friendliness, good manners, respect for one another are part of
creating good working relations.

Debanma has an Equal Opportunities Policy and will make sure that everyone is treated
equally and respectfully. It will also not tolerate any form of discrimination to its volunteers,
teachers, children, parents/guardians or anybody else. Hence, if you see anything that
displeases you, please talk to one of the volunteer teachers or Debanma members
immediately.

Finally, We look forward to for any child who goes through these classes to perform well at
school because the volunteer teachers involved are devoted to see the children do well.
